Open Days & Upcycling Workshops

Updated: Nov 16, 2022

Hi everyone. I hope you’ve all had a good month. With the Queen’s passing, it’s been a sad one, a time for reflection, appreciation, and change. We should all make time to evaluate our lives now and then. In doing so myself over the last few years, I am now here, living and working in beautiful Somerset. It’s a lovely place to be and I feel very lucky to be here. I hope you’re finding these newsletters of interest. I’ve packed more into this one (and held back a little too). If there’s something you’d like me to include in the future please let me know.

You’re Invited!

I’m really pleased with the workshop and how it’s now looking. For those who would like to visit, I have planned the following open days and evenings. If you’d like to come along, please let me know which of the following dates would suit you. It’s easy to find and there’s plenty of parking. It would be lovely to see you and show you around my new place and my recent projects.

14th October – 5 pm until 8.30 pm / 15th October – 10 am until 4 pm

19th November – 10 am until 4 pm

Save Money, Have Fun & Eat Cake!

With the cost of living rising at the rate it is, it’s even more important to make our homes the best we can for as little as possible, hence even more reason to try a little DIY and upcycle your own furniture. Painting a piece of furniture is so inexpensive and will give you so much joy. Look around your home and see what would benefit from a makeover. Then upcycle it yourself, commission me or book a workshop and learn how to paint your furniture properly.

I now have the perfect area in which to take workshops, inspire keen upcycling enthusiasts and give you the confidence to be able to work on your own furniture at home.

As well as learning how to transform your (soon-to-be) favourite pieces of furniture you’ll be offered a 10% discount on any paints and upcycling products purchased on the day! The quality of furniture paint has improved so much over the years, we stock (the best furniture paint ever, in my opinion) Fusion Mineral Paint and Annabell Duke Mineral Paint. Using these products, you can achieve a smart, durable, professional finish with very little prep, no primer or topcoat! Click here to see what colours are available. I’ll be placing another order soon so if the colour you like is showing ‘out of stock’ please let me know.

So treat yourself or book with a friend. Painting Parties can also be organised to suit your occasion. Something new, something different and fun.

Oh and did I mention, there’ll be tea/coffee and delicious homemade cake from Lynda’s Loaf. Delicious!

Weekends are better for some people so we’re offering Saturday workshops as a trial.

THE WALL

I feel a bit like Shirley Valentine talking about my wall. If you’ve seen the film, you’ll know what I mean. This wall is for staging furniture, ready to photograph. I’m not 100% sure about the colour, it works very well with natural woods, however, I’m uncertain it’ll work with some colours. I may have to paint another wall…

Makeover of the Month

Makeover of the Month has to be this bespoke, triple wardrobe. Because of it’s size and the fact that it’s bespoke, it’s been a challenge dismantling and re-building, however, I think you’ll agree it was worth it. Painted in Fusion’s Homestead Blue, this colour never lets me down. New hardware has been added and I’m in the process of fitting new hinges (as you can see).

Latest Commission

This Laura Ashley sideboard is a much-loved piece that fits a space perfectly, however, the owners wanted a much lighter, modern finish. We decided on Fusion’s Bedford for the paintwork and the top was sanded back and treated with a matt varnish for protection.

Preloved & Latest Finds

I’ve been busy this month finding unusual and classic pieces that I think you’ll like. One of my favourite finds is this Chinese sideboard/chest. It has a lacquered finish and amazing hardware, it is a statement piece. I especially like the secret drawers hidden behind the double doors.

I love the industrial 3-tier trolley and couldn’t resist the small Art Deco style wardrobe, it could make an amazing cocktail bar. And the old pine table and chairs are just a classic, a much loved, solid set of furniture that will always find a home.

More details for each of these, and more pieces, are on the website.

New Paint Colours

Fusion’s new colours have been delayed by a few weeks. They are now expected to arrive at the workshop sometime in October. We’re still super excited to use them and have furniture prepped and ready to be painted as soon as they land.

If you’d also like to get organised and pre-order, please get in touch.

WANTED!

Please get in touch if you’re good with wood, able to fix furniture (hinges, chairs, drawers, etc), and looking for a little interest and a few hours of work here and there. May suit someone retired or at college?

Remember…

If you want to visit my workshop to browse or collect, please call me prior to leaving home on 07717 535381 to see if I’m around or arrange a time.

And finally, thank You!

Thanks as always for being interested, sending photos, and keeping in touch. As a small business, your support and messages are really appreciated.

Have a lovely month.
